Leitrim Traditional Music Group in Residence, Dervish, was in the Fenagh area on Thursday 10th December 2009.
The group visited Fenagh National School, the Parent and Toddler group in Fenagh Visitor Centre and meet up with the members of Fenagh Active Age Group in Fenagh Visitor Centre.
Dervish is the second traditional music group in residence in as part of Leitrim County Council’s Arts Strategy. The previous very successful residency by Lunasa which produced the Leitrim Equation - an album featuring a host of Leitrim musicians with the aim of promoting and developing traditional music both in Leitrim and of Leitrim.
Dervish are Brian McDonagh, Liam Kelly, Tom Morrow, Shane Mitchell, Cathy Jordan and Michael Holmes. From Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon adn Dublin, together their performances are renowned internationally for their myriad of tones and moods ranging from high energy tunes, played with fluidity and intuitiveness, to beautifully measured songs, from charming lyrics of life and love, to inspiring melodies that lift audiences from their seats.
