Fenagh St Caillins GAA 125
A great weekend of festivities took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend starting with an open air concert and the local Scor set dancers, Sean Nos dancers, novelty Act and the Gorvagh Dance troupe entertaining the large crowd which gathered for the opening of the gathering celebrations. The Sean Leyden tournament was played for on the Saturday with the under 12 boys retaining the title for the second year in a row beating Leitrim Gaels in the final. The under 13 girls playing on the Saturday as well succumbed to a very strong Aughawillan Team in the final. Saturday night seen the presentation to club members who won All Ireland titles in
Football, Handball and Scor with MC Oliver Doonan giving a great introduction to each recipient. Open Air Concert provided by Brian Magahey finished off Saturday night. Sunday seen the open air mass of remembrance for all members of Fenagh St Caillins g.A.A, past and present celebrated by Fr Tommy Greenan, Fr Sean Burke and Fr Pat Murphy. A large crowd was present for the first mass in the graveyard since 1974. A memorable event for all present in lovely summer sunshine. The Official opening of the handball alley took place after mass with John Heaney and John Tom Bland officially opening the handball alley. Then there was the family fun evening with music and a barbeque in the village. There was face painting for the kids and tug o war for some of the adults with a large amount of very noisy supporters roaring on their respective teams. The Glostermin team emerged the winners despite tough opposition from the other teams namely Drumany, Fenagh and Cornagun. Congratulations to the organising committee for putting together a great weekend for all to enjoy and hopefully it might turn out to be an annual event for the August Bank Holiday weekend. You can catch up with what happened on the gathering weekend by going to the Fenagh Gathering Facebook Page.
