My name is Mark Tarmey from lanesboro county roscommon, I am currently doing a genealogy family tree and I am a grandson of colombus moran from mohill. My great grandad James moran is buried in fenagh graveyard along with his wife teresa. There is NO information on when they died on the gravestone and I am looking for this information if it is possible to get ? Be great to hear from you.
Hi Mark
Some of my ancestors are also buried at Fenagh Abbey. Do you have any dates associated with Colombus Moran? With a great name like that he shouldn’t be hard to find. He’s not the first Irishman to discover America – is he?
I have a photo of the Drumany school class of 1928. It includes my dad and uncles who all lived at Derrinkip. It’s only a short walk from The Fenagh Centre. The photo also includes Jimmy and Monica Moran, who may be related to you too? If they are of interest then please email me and I will send you a copy of the photo.
If anyone else is interested, the class was :-
School 1928: Back left to right : Rose Melia, Mary McNufty, John (Jack) Leyden, Maureen Doherty, unkown, Michael McGovern, P,C Beirne, Tom-Joe Flynn, Pee McWeeney, James Leyden, Bernie McWeeney, Martin Roddy:
Middle left to right : Bridie Redican, Lily McGovern, Mary Kate Greenan, Bee Roddy, Rose Melia, Bridget McPartland, John Canning, Jimmy McWeeney, Frank Flynn. Pee Rourke, Michael Rowley, Ritty Nealon, Michael Canning,
Front left to right: Lizzie Beirne, Eliza Rourke, Annie Roddy, Mollie Rourke, Charlie Bierne, John McWeeney, Jimmy Moran, Michael McNufty, Packie Leyden, Paddy Doherty, Monica Moran. Frankie Roddy, Hugh Leyden
I see your earlier note was 2012 so you may have moved on since then but a quick look on ancestry shows the birth of a Colombus Moran from Mohill (mother maiden name Daly) born in 1931. There was a James Moran from Mohill who married Eliza Duke date not shown but it seems around 1864. There was a Teresa Moran from Mohill (1894-1938) hope this helps.
Hi Neil,
I am trying to trace my family tree, and my grandmothers Monica Moran.
I see you may have some information which seems to match, i would love to see a copy of the photo you mention.
Hi Neil,
I believe it is my grandmother Monica Moran in the photo you mention. I would love to see a copy of it, i am trying to trace my family tree, and Monica Moran in particular.
Hi Mark,
I am also researching my family tree, and have Morans in Leitrim.
Maybe we have some family connections.
I can send a link of family tree if you like.
