Great job on listing the details of the graveyard plots.
Have visited but failed to locate the family grave. I can now return thanks to your efforts and find my great-grandparents final resting place.
Many thanks.
I have been told that my 2nd great grandparents Owen Tiernan(1814-1888) and Ellen Fitzpatrick (Abt. 1826-1906) of Drumnamore are buried “close to one of the outer walls” but the headstone apparently is long gone. Would you have any suggestions on how I might locate it? I am planning to visit in September this year!
Hi Kathy , i have just looked at plots of Heerans numbers 116, 117, 118 of which i have family buried there, including my mother, yet my grannie Mary ellen Heeran who departed in december 1983 was buried in this plot, as i attended the buriel with my late mother yet she is not included in the names , can she be added ? and what reason would this be that it was never registered ?
I have emailed some photo of the headstones to your email – it may answer some of your queries. All we have is what we can read on the headstones – if you would like to delve further you could contact our local genealogy centre in Ballinamore http://www.leitrimroots.com – they have a searchable database of births deaths marriages etc.
Hope this helps somewhat.
Kind regards

Do you have any information on the name of Jim Scollan’s (died 1760) son who erected the grave stone for his father? Jim is buried in Fenagh Abbey Within Old Graveyard. Jim’s wife may have been Mary buried there in 1769.
Thank you for any help.

Hi, plot 374 in Abbey has inscription which includes many names including my 4th GG Oliver St John. If the plot is striped does that mean it’s a grave or headstone?
Regards Judy
I’m afraid we don’t have that information here. We have a record of the gravestone inscrption ‘I.H.S/ Pray for the soul of/ Jim Scollan who/ died June the 19th/ 1760 aged 58 and / his wife Mary Sco/ llan als Dugan who/ died Febry the 6th / 1769 aged 60 Erec/ ted by their Son/ ______ Scollan (piece missing).’
I would advise if you want some further information to contact http://www.leitrimroots.ie – the local genealogy centre in Ballinamore.
Jennie thank you so much for the helpful information in your response. I am contacting the genealogy centre in Ballinamore. I am also wondering if you know the best way I could contact the people who maintain the graveyard where Jim is buried. I ‘d like to find out if they are aware of any Scollan family members who visit the grave?
Hi Paul, I have sent you an email with all details I can find here.

Hi Kathy – we have all graves listed at https://www.fenagh.com/graveyards/old-fenagh-abbey-graveyard/ and a map here https://www.fenagh.com/graveyards/old-fenagh-abbey-graveyard-map-and-grave-numbers/ – there are many graves like yours with no inscription or unmarked which makes it very difficult to pinpoint exact locations- all I can suggest is you take a walk around the graves and outer wall location when you come visit in September.

Hello,
I am looking for Patrick McGovern, who died in 1903. He is my great-grandfather. He is reported to have been buried in the Abbey graveyard.
Thank you for any information.
